Frequently Asked Questions
Are you licensed?
Yes, we were first licensed with the FAA’s 333 exemption for commercial pilots and have since been licensed as Part 107 operators of unmanned aircraft.
Are you insured explicitly for drones?
Yes, we are insured by the industry leader who specializes in covering drones for general liability and hull damage. If you decide to book us, we will be happy to provide you with our insurance certificate, adding your company as additionally insured.
How do you ensure shoot safety?
We have a no-comprise approach to safety during all of our client projects. All of our pilots have a strict set of guidelines that must be followed at all times. These include but are not limited to:
- No overhead fly-bys over non-active participants.
- Flight restrictions during inclement weather such as heavy rains, high winds, and so on.
- The presence of a Visual Observer at all times.
Our pilots are seasoned, responsible operators with experience on an array of equipment and have created safe yet incredible, innovative shots.
Do you operate within a Flight Envelope?
Always, and in line with the directives of the FAA. The drone must remain with the pilot’s line-of-sight and under 400 feet at all times.
How long is each flight?
Each battery lasts approximately 10-20 minutes, depending on the payload, temperature, and type of aircraft. Swapping out a battery only takes a couple of minutes, and we always bring multiple batteries to each shoot. If required, we can also recharge batteries during a shoot, as long as there is an outlet nearby.
Are there any restrictions on drone shoots from the FAA?
Yes. The rules from the FAA we must abide by are:
- Flight can only be done during daylight hours, with the only exception being 30 mins before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset.
- The maximum altitude is 400 feet above the ground or a structure. For example, if we are filming a 150 ft building, we could fly 550 ft high directly above the building.
- We cannot fly over the heads of people who are not directly participating in the operation. Flying directly over people requires an FAA waiver, even if they are directly involved in the event. Web-tactics can apply for a waiver, but those waivers may take up to 90 days, so we ask for as much prior notice for the event as possible, although we can capture similar shots by staying on the outskirts of the event as well.
- We cannot fly within a 5-mile radius of an airport without prior authorization from the FAA.
- Some areas are restricted by the FAA, which would prevent us from flying in that particular area.
